Schwang Manor: Winter Denial

Despite what the groundhog says, since we live in Chicago, we just know there will be at least twelve more weeks of winter. I miss the days of the fun daily dog walks exploring the neighborhood, meeting people, and having beautiful greenery around.
Since it still gets dark around 5:00, all of our walks are in the dark. Even the pooches don't have a good time:
It has just been a long and miserable winter. And now that we're essentially stuck in the house, I've been trying some things to make it feel more "tropical" and less Chicago winter.
We meandered in to CB2 the other day and picked up this new bathmat. It's made of riverstones and I like it because it reminds me of the shower floor of our vacation in Tulum. It kind of does make our bathroom feel a bit more spa-like, and even Miss M. likes how it feels on her webbed feet:
We also picked up these bright yellow placemats we originally spotted at Jam. Now eating at our own table feels like fine dining.
And apparently at Trader Joe's it's already Spring. They have tons of tulips, daffodils, and bulb plants. We picked up some paperwhites which are making the house fragrant. Plus tulips make anything look better.
What are your strategies for getting through the winter?

Poor Miss M; she has a look of absolute despair in the first picture!

I love the bathmat. It's unique, and again, it matches those doggies perfectly.

I get through the winter by cuddling with my dogs, sitting by the fire, and enjoying a glass of wine. Of course, that's just on the weekends. Weekdays are so busy, there's hardly time to remember it's winter! :)

We actually got several inches of snow in Nashville this year and although it was pretty I am soooo ready for it to melt away.
I'm ready for walks through the trails and swims in the lake - my poor babies are so ready to get out of the house and back to the lake and park!

I don't mind the cold so much as the fact that's always dark. Although I would probably mind the cold if I lived in Chicago. We live in an urban area, so it's nice to be able to walk the dog and see other people out and about. But I am so happy once spring rolls around, that's for sure!

We are lucky and live where it rarely falls below 30. We do hate the early darkness and the never ending rain lately.

I am into fresh flowers and just getting myself (and the pooches) out whenever I can!

Whazzup pitmaster dudes?

We popped over to Mango Minster and saw your photo on the dog cruise. My brother was all like 'NO WAY! I cruised there!" and he wondered if you got any of the 17,000 p-mails he left on the pebbles and grasses around there. He can be kinda chatty when he writes a p-mail.

Keep toasty my friends!

Hi,

I saw your picture on Mango Minster and recognized the canine cruise and Navy Pier right away! I've been on that too!

The bath mat looks cool.

The Canine Cruise was one of the best days of Mr. B's life--and it was pretty fun for us too. We wrote about it here: http://pittiesincity.blogspot.com/2009/08/chicagoing-mercury-canine-cruise.html
