Ms. M 's Droste Effect

Yesterday as I was sorting through our videos, I noticed Ms. M randomly performing a trick as I was watching the video used in this post. I realized, that she was reacting to the commands in the video, completely confused about how I was giving directions without actually speaking, yet still compelled to perform. You can actually see the confusion on her face before the twirl:
It was even funnier when we were watching the video of her watching the video and she was even more confused. I'm not sure if this makes her really smart, or just kind of dumb.

She is too funny. I'm pretty sure she winked at me around the 12-14 second mark. Yup, obviously directed right to me! :)

A few years ago we fostered birds that had been confiscated from a hoarder. Mom made a video of them to put on Petfinder. Every time mom played the video, the birds went CRAZY singing back at themselves on the video. Human technology so confuses us animals. But then it confuses mom too because she never thought to make a video of the birds singing at themselves in their video.

That is what I call "drive". She seems to have such a desire to perform that she will, even when it's not directly coming from you. I think that is fabulous!

I think Miss M is the smartest doggie that ever was! Gosh, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have even paid any attention to the person talking on the video. And I think she was thinking to herself when she was looking at you, "Wow! This is the best ventriloquist act EVER. His lips don't move at all!"

That video is hilarious. Ms. M is definitely one smart cookie. I can't believe she just keeps twirling like that. She's such a good girl.

The comment above reminds me of a funny store a former coworker told me. Her mother-in-law had two large parrots. I think a Quaker parakeet and an African gray. Anyway, they knew their names (Big Bird and Booger) and would tell you their name if asked. One day they left the house and one person forgot something and had to run back inside. Destiny's Child "Say My Name" was on the radio and apparently the birds would respond "Big Bird" "Booger" every time they sang the title. Funny.

I swear she was looking at you and saying "this IS what I'm supposed to be doing right?" twirl, twirl, "I mean, I'm supposed to be doing this, right?" look, twirl, twirl, "wait, let me do this one more time in case this is what I'm supposed to be doing" pause, look, "you better not be playing a trick on me..."

Ms M is SO cute! That underbite just gets me every time...
