Long Cold Nights

It is easy to feel miserable during the Chicago winter months, because the nights come a lot earlier and the days start so much later. When I leave in the morning, it is often pitch black and fairly cold and when A finishes teaching her last class, it is always pitch black and really cold.
But it really is hard to be miserable when every morning I catch A, Mr. B and Miss M keeping a watchful eye out the window as I bike down our street to work and on my rides home I get to see Mr. B's head in the window bounce up and down, excited to see me home.
Even though we live near a busy city street, the nights can be eerily quiet and lonely, but the sight of Mr. B sleeping so soundly and the sound of Ms. M snoring so loudly, reminds us that our house is whole.
Then there are the not so cold nights, because they are spent hugging our personal space heaters, Miss M and Mr. B in their beds.

My little space heater gets to come under the covers to keep us both toasty. I just can't get used to sleeping with the heat on except on the very coldest of nights, so this keeps us both toasty warm.

Awwww! I bet they are great space heaters! Sometimes if my feet are really cold, I put them on Ginger's belly....it's so warm!

Fur babies are better than hot water bottles! Every time I sit down a cat joins me to warm their ears and paws under my blanket. Apollo then tries to lay his head on the cats, because he doesn't know they are there. Then Laci comes over for extra hugs. Yep, during winter all the animals are EXTRA cuddly

My two have been trained to sleep one pup per person. Kitty on me and Coco on my husband. I love nothing more.
Mr. B's face in the window would make it hard to leave!

We have barely dipped into the 20s a couple of times so far here in SE MO. Last year I had an electric blanket; this year, I have a photo of 5 dogs on my lap in my recliner - saving electricity, doing our part fot the planet :).
LOVE the thought of everyone watching you bike off in the morning. Family indeed.

Oh, they are just so cute. I bet they are so happy when you come home from work. My dog and cats loves to curl up together in front of our fireplace in the winter. They would sleep there all day!

Aw, that is so sweet. As much as I complain about the dog hair all over our furniture (and we're lucky if hair is the worst of it), I love snuggling up to the dogs on the couch or in bed, especially in winter. I always tuck my hands in between Levi's leg and his body to warm them up! I figure that's the price he has to pay if he wants to lay on the couch.
