DoggyStyle: Accommodating Dogs on Furniture

If we were a sitcom, all of our scenes and storylines would take place on this 'set'. Though when we go on 'summer hiatus', we move over here.
We aren't kidding when we say the winters are so horrible we need to soak up every minute of the summer. What was once a barren 10x10 deck when E lived here in his bachelor days, has now become an over-acheiving seasonal room multi-tasking as: herb garden, al fresco cafe, outdoor movie theatre, and urban lounge escape all in one. We have even  perfected the ability to just roll out of bed to begin enjoying the outdoors.
Ever since this great debate, we have decided to give the pups outdoor furniture privileges. We took your advice and we decided to use a blanket--which has also doubled as a picnic blanket--as a quick cover to make sure the space is still comfortable for guests.
Which also inspired us to change up our outdoor room this year: adding some more vibrant flowers, making pillows out of extra serapes (thanks ebay!) and adding a layered rug. Which looks so much different than it did here.
Our pooches love being outside so much, it has been hard to convince them to come back in.

Also:
Some people think this is a terrible part of living in the city, but this is what it is really like.

Wow! It looks so bright and colorful! Glad to hear that E & Mr. Br got their way about the outdoor furniture... looks like you came up with a great compromise! :)

YAY for compromise!! And the new digs look GREAT! We dropped the ball in getting our patio done this summer, so at this point we'll go with what we have -- but NEXT summer for sure!

It looks great and I know the pups are happy with the furniture privileges!

Where is the rug from? That's our biggest challenge, inside and out. My dog needs the traction on wood floors, but they get soiled sooo quickly (yes, accidents - they happen) and never seem to clean up right.

I love how bright and colorful that outdoor space is! I'd never leave either! I think I'm going to use those pics as inspiration to decorate our "extra" room in our new house. There's a dingy room above the garage that needs... something! And I think bright colors are just the thing!

@Maggie: The rugs are polyeurathane beach mats from World Market. We have been using a couple of different kinds throughout the years that we wrote about here: http://pittiesincity.blogspot.com/2013/08/doggystyle-on-straw-beach-mats-and-dogs.html
Though I like your yoga mat idea too.

Friends I want share with you some A dialogue is a conversation. Many families hold off on decorating until their children are older, making do with ratty post-dorm furniture for years after its expiration date because, well, the kids will just destroy anything else. But even the youngest children benefit from living amid beautiful objects; they grow to appreciate and respect them. So go ahead and create a home the whole family can enjoy. You can even get kids involved in the process, asking what they'd like to see in a room you're redecorating or letting them weigh in on a few pre-screened paint colors or fabric samples. They may even feel enough ownership to think twice before kicking off their muddy boots onto the rug they helped select.
