Chicagoing: A City Overtaken

I never used to believe those TV shows with their Halloween-themed episodes where every single person in the show was walking around in an amazing costume. I thought this was only a TV thing, until I moved to Chicago. Seriously, walking down the street this entire weekend everyone has been completely decked out in their Halloween attire.
Mr. B wanted to eat this costume:
I attribute this to all the Halloween "pop-up shops" that have now taken over nearly every vacant store front. But, this has given us a great opportunity to allow the pooches to spend the weekend dressed in costume so they could meet many more people. Miss M decided to be an angel this year:
Ironically, we had also gotten a devil costume, but she actually refused to wear it and freaked out. We went to a neighborhood Halloween pet event in the morning. Mr. B won a prize for his turtle costume:
But we really thought they deserved to win:
We took lots of long walks in our neighborhood where the pooches got a lot of attention for their costumes:
Then we went to the North Halsted Street Halloween Parade. I used to live in this neighborhood for years, and I had no idea what a huge, fun parade this is. People really go all out, and they had a huge parade that we were able to be part of. They even had floats, bands, and tons of spectators.
Miss M had such a great time marching in the parade; she had to greet every single person, and people were even commenting that she was just like a political candidate who had to meet everyone. It was a really fun time, and E is going to post more photos on Wednesday.
We wish we had put together a "group costume" for the pooches, and maybe something we could dress up for also. Did anyone do this, or have any group costume ideas we could do next year?

  1. Miss M makes a very good angel! And, of course Mr. B won a prize! How fun that they got to wear their costumes all weekend. We just don't have that in our area!

  6. Congrats to Mr. B on his win. Miss M you are a sweet angel and understand why you freaked out over the devil costume. You are not a devil, but a sweet angel. We wish our town had these types of fun things for fur-babies. But then again we are not fond of dressing up. The Hounddogs

  12. Yeah Mr B!
Darwin wore her hula girl costume to the park yesterday and got TONS of attention.
Im thinking next year we'll have her go as Scooby Doo and I can be Velma and Jason can be Shaggy! hehehe

  13. Miss M and Mr. B both look like little angels (even though Mr. B is a turtle - haha). That's so funny that Miss M freaked out with the devil costume - she knows she's not a devil! :)

I'm so horrible at coming up with costumes (exactly why I almost never go to Halloween parties where costumes are required!), but I'm sure others will have plenty of ideas for you guys and the dogs.

  15. I've had a hard time out here in California finding costumes big enough for my pibble. Is there a specific place you go to regularly and do they have an online selection? ;)

  19. I wish we'd been up there for the weekend! That all sounds like so much fun!

Morgan and Bunny went to the nursing home as Little Red Riding Hood with the wolf in Granny's disguise this year. Back when we had Treat, she and Blueberry went one year as Trick and Treat. We had hats for them one year so they could be (Milk)bone collectors, with a deposit spot on the top. I saw a great one this year that was a bathtub theme with different shades of blue and white balloons on one with a shower cap on and a rubber ducky that I might try at some point.

  22. Ms. M is the sweetest little angel ever! And Mr. B is just too stinkin' cute! I can only dress up Nemo around here, and then only for so long. A certain black pit bull ::coughMELANIEcough:: likes to try to eat the costumes I buy. Oh well.

  23. You are such cuties in your costumes.
You guys can be The Flintstones for next Halloween. If you decide to make them it wouldn't be to difficult to make (I think).

  24. Highlands--We've been buying Mr B's outfits at Target. Despite his big pittie chest, he fits in a large. Miss M actually shops in the 'little girls' department at Target. That's where we bought her tutu and angel wings. Funny enough, we actually have people stopping us telling us their little girl (children) have the same tutu as Miss M. Hope this helps!

  27. I was going to get Levi a costume this year, but I have been too preoccupied with house stuff! Maybe next year when I will hopefully have TWO dogs to dress up:)

Do the dogs freak out at all when they see people in scary costumes? Probably not because they are so much better adjusted than Levi, lol. Levi was about to start barking at a guy in a mask at the party we were at, but Jason nipped that in the bud.

Ms. M. realizes that Halloween is a day to take on a different persona, but she realized that even an actress as accomplished as she could not stretch her abilities to accurately portray a devil.

  28. Haha - we saw a group dressed as a "Pumpkin Patch" a couple of people and a couple of dogs. We'll get around to posting pics one day. You guys live in a crazy fun town!
