Miss Goofus and Mr. Gallant

It was just the other day that I had the epiphany: our pooches were just like Goofus and Gallant from Highlights magazines. These characters look similar, but they aren't twins. Gallant is always nice and respectful, while Goofus just does whatever he wants. Let me show you what I mean.
Mr. B is appreciative and happy to be bathed:
While Miss M lets them know they aren't working hard enough:
Mr. B enjoys laying contemplatively by the flowers:
While Miss M is critical of our decorating decisions:
Mr. B is loyal and loves spending time with his family:
While Miss M is always interviewing and campaigning for a new home:
In most dog duos, will there always be a Goofus and a Gallant? Or does anyone have the misfortune to have 2 Goofuses?

  1. This cracked me up. It's rare that I actually laugh aloud at a blog post, but I did just now. Thanks for a great start to the morning. Our Lollie Wonderdog was definitely Miss Gallant, but we don't really have either of these in our house right now. I am going to have to think hard on which cartoons match our Chick and Stevie-girl though.

  2. I laughed too! Our two are definitely some characters, but it might be hard to say which is which in my case. I think they ro-sham-bo in the morning to see who will be Goofus and who will be Galant that day. LOVE IT. Thank you for cracking me up this morning!

  3. Miss M has 101 ridiculous faces! The majority of the time, Parker is Gallant and Skye is Goofus. Actually, I'd say 99.9% of the time. We usually associate them with Pinkie and the Brain, which was my brother's favorite cartoon growing up. I'd say one Goofus is enough for any house!

  4. That is hilarious! I love the photo of Mr. B in the bath - he just looks so pleased with himself - and Ms. M shaking hands and "campaigning for a new home?" Ridiculous! I might be looking up that Highlights cartoon this afternoon.... :)

  6. I'd have to say Roxy and Jordie are more Gallant (even if Roxy is a diva) while the new kid, Zach, is a bit more like Goofus.

  8. Oh yes, we have a set here!

I love Miss M's face - she looks perpetually pissed off. I love that.

  9. I love that you can catch all of their different facial expressions. I really think Flash and Miss M would be fast friends as they both like to look for new homes! Flash is a total mama's girl, but will hang out with anyone she can!

  11. Another morning set right by looking at pics of Miss M and Mr. B (they are too funny). I think our dogs are a little bit of both, but not enough of either. They don't campaign to hard for a new home (though my Laci girl was smitten with a friend I had over for dinner the other night, it was embarrassing...I think she would have left with them if I had let her).

  12. Love this post! I love how you guys interpret what the pooches are thinking and it always seems to be right on the money. Molly would have definately been the Gallant and Janie the Goofus :) I wonder if our next foster will be a goofus as well?

  13. I have a Goofus/Gallant and a Gallant/Goofus. In the house Sketcher is the alpha, making sure Angel knows her place. Outside, it is a complete role reversal. Angel takes charge and Sketcher is the hapless side kick.

  14. or....does one have the misfortune of having two Gallants? I mean, come on! Miss M makes life a little more hilarious, doesn't she? :wink wink: It's a nice balance :o)

  18. Wow! I so remember Goofus and Gallant from my days of reading Highlights in the dentist office waiting room, and I sooooo didn't want to behave like Goofus (I also didn't want to be at the dentist's but that's a whole different story!).
Personally, I think Miss M would be less likely to critique the flower situation if someone would only send her a dozen long stemmed roses!

  19. Miss Goofus thinks you may have cut the flower stems too short for the vase. :-) Love seeing your pitties every day.
