Despite looming threats of an impending storm, it was so great to see 18 dogs and their owners up early on a Sunday morning for our weekly SociaBulls walk. We have been rotating locations which allow us to explore even more of our fantastic city. This week brought us up to a perfectly uncongested trail meandering along the Chicago River and flanked by fantastic trees and greenery.
I had heard about all kinds of wildlife living in the city, including 60 wild coyotes, which often make their home in these types of city parks. Though we only saw renegade squirrels which provided some extra excitement for the pooches.
I had actually lived in this area for several years (when I first adopted Miss M!), but I had never known about this trail. It's amazing how much our city has to offer that I never knew existed, and a secondary benefit of our group is being able to see so many places.
Next week we are planning on having a complete contrast as we head back to the lakefront urban skylines.
Just a heads up - I get a 404 error when I click on your Socialbulls registration link.

ReplyDeletet-shirts would be awesome...
ReplyDeleteThat's so neat that y'all have a walking club! Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many great trails in the city, especially along the river! I am fascinated by urban coyotes and have started collecting coyote stories from city and suburban dwellers throughout the Chicago area. It turns out the habits of urban coyotes are very different than rural coyotes. I think the city has tagged about 60 coyotes, but there are hundreds more living among us.
ReplyDeleteI have seen two coyotes in the last six months - one running across Graceland Cemetery at about 5:30 p.m. and one in Clark Park at about 7 in the morning - he shot up from the river and ran right in front of me. Fortunately, I didn't have Pip with me either time.
I see GORDON!! It's so great to see him out and about.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great place for a walk! How did Levi do with the rest of the dogs?
