Pooches: Gimme Paw

Though A has worked hard to teach Ms. M new tricks, there are times that her tricks come without any overt training. Ms. M loves to bow and every time Ms. M took a bow, A would say "yes, take a bow!" Eventually, this stuck and now Ms. M bows whenever A asks her to take a bow.
We have also noticed that Ms. M will give us her paw when we wipe her paws before letting her in. We always wipe the pooches paws before we let them in, because it is a simple thing we can do to keep our floors clean. We don't know when this started happening, we steadily started noticing that Ms. M would lift her front paws to help us wipe her feet. She would even alternate her feet to make it easier for us and sometimes she will lift her rear paws. Poor Mr. B, he still has not figured out that we wipe his paws before we let them in, as you can see in this video.

  1. Miss M continues to impress me! Mr. B is just like the two in my house. They aren't uncooperative, but they definitely don't help me out any! And, I love that he kissed the camera. They're so cute!

  2. We all know they learn the good and the bad from their fur-siblings. Appears yours are learning all the good. :)

  3. Well, you know, boys will be boys! I do that too, lifting my paws for mom to wipe - makes it go faster so I can move on to better things.

  9. Oh, that Miss M. So patiently lifting each paw to haves her servants clean her feetsies like the queen she is. And Mr. B - well, he just couldn't BE any cuter, that's for sure! I like to stretch a lot like Miss M does. Maybe me and mom can work on "bow."

PeeS. All THREE of us got the teensiest little bit of chicken you ever saw. But I'm not complaining. At least we got some!

  10. They are so cute!
That's a good idea! Maybe we need to start doing that too. Maybe it will even help Darwin get more comfortable with us touching her feet and make nail trimmings easier!

  11. I've got a good one - I taught Charlie how to wipe his feet on the welcome mat - so he cleans his own feet! Granted it's just his frontsies (we're still working on the back ones) but maybe Mr. B would prefer to be master of his domain and wipe his own paws?

  16. So cute! I love when dogs start offering behaviours like that. It is the most fun way to train. Your dogs make it all look so easy.

  17. Ms. M is such a good girl. This might be a good thing to do at our abode as well. After all, gotta have clean feet for the white sheets.

  20. Ms M is a sweetie. Sienna HATES her paws wiped or claws clipped. Ellie doesnt seem to mind it too much. I need to remember to pair it with a treat more often.

  22. I don't know about all that paw wiping stuff, but I love the expression on Mr. B's face. Seems he maybe goes to his happy place during the entire ordeal.

  23. What do you wipe them with? Is it from the little container by the door?

  24. They are so good, just standing there for you! And Mr. B wagging his tail while you wipe his paws-so cute. We should start doing that, but Neptune has almost no training, so it will take some work. He gets so excited when I just try to put his collar on, it's quite the challenge. It will be some time before we get to feet wiping.

  25. Parlance--We use kid's antibacterial hand wipes on their feet so they don't track all the Chicago grime into our house. We also wrote about it here: http://pittiesincity.blogspot.com/2010/10/doggystyle-big-dogs-and-time-saving.html
