Chicagoing: 2011 West Fest

Other than the Pride Parade, the event we look forward to with our pooches is West Fest. West Fest is one of the most kid and pooch friendly festivals. They shut down busy Chicago avenue bringing in bands, food, pony rides, and inflatable jumping areas. They have a pooch-specific area complete with sprinklers, baths, a dog bakery on wheels and informative booths. They had a little sprinkler set up for the pooches to cool off, but the pooches took it as a drinking fountain.
Alive Rescue and Doggy Style Pet Shop had a charity pet wash at the PUP-fest of West Fest. While Mr. B felt refreshed and quite happy to be washed, Ms. M on the other hand...well you can tell by her face.
Though Ms. M was upset, she quickly got over it when she learned that she will get ice cream from Fido to Go, her favorite food truck. Each pooch got their own flavor and Mr. B was a little wary that Ms. M got the better flavor, but when he saw the lengths Ms. M had to go through to get her ice cream, he quickly wizened up ate his ice cream.
The special was Mac & Cheese ice-cream with proceeds going to Don't Bully my Breed rescue. Ms. M just got into her ice cream, and had ice cream all over her face.

Of course Mr. B had his camera on and took some great pictures of the festivities, including the PUP-fest charity dog wash area.
He even got a picture of our friend's son, Logan and his favorite yellow truck, Fido to Go.
Of course, anywhere they go, they have to meet new friends,
but even better they got to reconnect with best friends they haven't seen in awhile and those they haven't met yet.

  1. hm, this is one fest I've never been to. it's just too far out of my 'hood for me, I guess. love the pics as always, and even though Miss M seems so unhappy in the bath pic, she's awfully smiley in some of the others!

  7. Great photos! Looks like a fun event. I am jealous of the food truck for dogs. We have tons of food trucks in the area but none for dogs.

  8. What a great event. Awesome way to continually socialize. Do you guys tend to protect one another? Since I came to live here, my Lily screams at some doggies. If mom walks her alone she doesn't scream as much

  14. The look on Miss M's face is priceless. Perhaps she thinks bathing is a private kind of thing!

  15. I literally laughed out loud at Miss M's face in the bath. That is one grumpy pooch. If looks could kill! I love how expressive her face is.
Mr. B's photographic skills are developing (pun intended) nicely too ;)

  18. Had I known there were doggie pools at West Fest, I would definitely have joined you!

To answer your question, nope I have never been too excited about the beaches in Chicago (or even Michigan). We are not sure what it was about Lake Superior, but it definitely brought out the puppy in me.
