Mr. B the tough dog

We always hear how Mr. B is such a solid dog and this is usually while someone is slapping and petting his side or behind. He is a perfect Bears fan and the way he looks pretty much epitomizes Chicago and Chicagoans: solid, weathered, resilient, tough and calloused. So it is pretty funny that his favorite toy right now is a big fuzzy red bone.
Our fantastic dog walker bought the red and a matching yellow fuzzy bone for the pooches as a Christmas gift, but really the fuzzy bones have become Mr. B's toys.
He carries them all around the house, when we leave for our walk, he will try to take his bone on the walk and when I take them down out back to potty, he will run out the door with the bone and I will have to chase after him to grab the bone.
It is funny that we have all these Nylabones and sometimes real bones laying around the house and though on rare occasions he will chew on one of them, he prefers to play with a large fuzzy bone. We have taught him to be gentle with his toys, so many of his fluffy toys have lasted several months and some over a year.
I guess he is like a true Chicagoan, though he looks all tough on the outside, he really is just a softy.

How did you teach him to be soft with his toys?!
I don't have the willpower :)

Mr. B isn't fooling anyone who's read this blog (and has seen what he puts up with from Miss M). We all know he's a marshmallow.

That's one BIG bone! Not sure I'd even be able to lift it!

I want to learn the secret to teaching dogs to be gentle with their toys too! That big red bone wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes in my house...

I'm with Levi Mac. How did you teach them to be gentle with toys?

Sometimes I wish I were nicer to my toys... It would be nice to have one last more than a few minutes.

How did you teach them to be gentle with their toys?!? Winnie and Bruno destroy their toys in instants.

I could see right through his tough exterior from the beginning... we get the same comments about our Chick, and we think it's so funny because he is the biggest sissy ever :)
Would you please please teach me how you taught them to be gentle with their toys? We have a serious shredding problem here.

Awww..those are fantastic shots of Mr. B. Gus tries to sneak out of the house with his toys too. He's always so proud of himself if he makes it out the door with one in his mouth. Enjoy watching the game this weekend!

Oh, we already knew that Mr. B is a big ol' mush. But this is a super great example of it!

And please, please, please don't tell my mom how you taught Mr. B to be gentle with his toys. I don't want her getting any ker-azy ideas.

Sigh, those toys would have been dead in under 5 minutes in this house

I love it when dogs love their toys so much they try to take them everywhere.

And like Kari, those would have been gone in 5 minutes in our house too.

heeeeeeheeee, Ms. Rikki is an expert at squeakectomy (shredding to get to the squeaker) and unless the fuzzy toy is at least 18" maximum life is under two minutes...

How did you teach him to be gentle with his toys? I wish I could buy mine stuffed toys but they would be destroyed in seconds. I even had a dachshund for a short period of time, which I thought would be a perfect dog to buy a stuffed toy for. The doxie didn't end up working out but the toy I bought him, shredded. Sadness :(

CUTE! Mr B! Can you teach Darwin how to be gentler with her toys? Her old toys she had when she was a tiny pup are still in one piece, but anything new that comes in the house gets destuffed.

Awww. That last photo is just the sweetest. :-) It's so nice he can be so good with his favourite toys. And doesn't think the best way to show his love is to destroy them.

I defy anyone to look at Mr. B and think all pit bulls are killers.

Due to popular demand, we'll write a post next week showing how Mr. B went from tearing apart baseball mitts to being able to gentle chew, and preserve, his stuffed toys.

Mr. B, you are way too adorable for words. And also very stylish, as is Miss M. May we please present you with the Stylish Blogger Award?

Aww, such a cutie Mr. B is, especially with his fuzzy bone! Sunday we'll need his help to "bear down" against those Packers!

He is gentle with his stuffies? What a good dog! We are getting better with ours. Lily likes to shake hers like crazy, Trixie just nibbles the fuzz off.

Seriously, trained them to be gentle with their toys?
I need details please.

I am so impressed that the bone still looks brand-new! The only stuffed toy Levi hasn't destroyed was the little chipmunks that go inside his chipmunk tree. The tree had more stuffing than I could have imagined, but he just gently played with each chipmunk. It was pretty cute. The three chipmunks have one-by-one met their demise now that we have Neptune! Apparently Levi doesn't mind destroying them if he gets a good game of tug out of it.
