Things to Do in Chicago with Dogs: Watching the Chicago Marathon

While I have spent the past several years running the Chicago marathon, this year I decided to 'retire', but come back as a spectator to cheer on the runners. As a runner I know how important the crowd support is, and I was so happy that E would bring the pooches to cheer me on. The race has over 40,000 runners, and it's like a party spanning 26.2 miles across all the neighborhoods of the city. We were even joined by adorable Lola and Franklin whose parents are marathon runners as well.
Many of the runners and spectators dress up, so we knew this would be the perfect chance for the pooches to head into their costume closet. Mr. B even had a mid-event costume change ala Lady Gaga. Little Super-Levi wanted to use his superpowers to help the runners on this extra hot day.
The heat made everything extra hard, and it was already in the 70's early in the morning. The pooches crazy costumes made a lot of runners smile, and some even stopped.
One of the runners even recognized the pooches and wrote on our Facebook pageYou guys saved me!!!! I was really feeling the heat on that mile and started to struggle. Thank you for the shout out, I did a double take when I saw you guys; I couldn't believe it!!! Fate! That was better than an energy gel, and I thought about my pitties waiting for me at home and got all teary eyed and emo... I had to give it my best for all of them! Much ♥ and thank you! (Congrats again on your run Lea!!)
And of course, the pooches had big smiles from all the extra attention.
Congratulations to all the runners!

Awww, I'm loving the superhero costumes. Definitely making one for Bilbo for halloween - just have to decide what superhero he is! (I swear, when I told him I'd dress him up as a hobbit he glared at me)

I will have to ask my friend if she seen you guys. She ran the Marathon that day and completed it in 4 hours and 8 minutes. I would still be running, or laying on the ground trying to catch my breath. Also, what about that lady that ran it and then gave birth afterwords. Love the costumes and I am sure they made everyone smile. Sniffs, The HoundDogs

You guys sure would have given me a boost if I'd been running. People wearing costumes always cheer me up in marathons, but dogs in costumes are far, far above and beyond!

here in Australia the Chicago marathon got media coverage because of a crazy pregnant lady who did it, went into labour during the marathon, then gave birth to her baby shortly after - a week early...

Mr. B., Miss M and Levi - I think it was awfully Most Wonderful of all of you to go out there and cheer up all those running humans. I bet they all had a little more pep in their step once they got a look at your cute costumes!

Levi and Mr B must have made an inspiring pair of super heroes! That would have spurred me on, and I hate running!

Oh man, that would have made my day! What a sweet idea to go root everyone on with the pups. The ears on Mr. B's first costume kill me, your kids are too cute!

I love their costumes!!! Just too cute. Everyone loved when my 104 lbs rottie was dressed up as a skunk lol, he also had a rainjacket and a leather bomberjacket :)
