Mr. B Tries So Hard

Mr. B is such a sweet and loyal dog, but sadly, he is not very bright, which makes life difficult in a home where treats are handed out based on intelligence and to make matters worse he lives with a pooch that is smarter than anyone else in the house.
I would like to state that A chooses to treat the pooches after a trick or some sort of show, which clearly favors Miss M. I, on the other hand, give treats whenever they look cute, which is clearly in favor of Mr. B. The snooty Miss M and A are the intellectuals of the house, watching foreign movies with ironic humor and reading things like books, while Mr. B and I are very much the simpletons of the house watching instant classics like the new Muppet movie and reading things like the comics page in the newspaper.
Poor Mr. B, despite his inferior intellect, he still tries very hard to learn new tricks. It took us over a year to teach him down, on top of his other trick of sit, but A wanted to push the boundary and add wave to his repertoire of tricks. Now Mr. B is so confused that he cannot tell if he should be waving, sitting or laying. Sometimes you can see that single wheel in his head spinning so slowly as he tries to figure out the trick that will get him the morsel of treat.
But like his old man, he is not quite bright and not a quitter and he will try until he gets it right.

I love about a million things in this video! Poor Miss M's face: "BUT I'M DOING IT YOU GUYS. Why do we have to wait for him?"
Mr. B's tail after he tries (or doesn't) - "BUT LOOK. I'm cute! Cookie? Cookie? Cookie?" *tail wag*
And of course you can see him being like, "But Miss M, how did you KNOW that's what they want you to do?!"
This is SO similar to our household. Daph will run through her million tricks, nailing each of them, and then cycle through again, while Fae is still stuck on, "Wait, is down the one where i make eye contact? What if I bark at you? WHY IS SHE GETTING ALL MY COOKIES?"

Awesome work, Mr. B! A word to the wise... just do all three tricks when ever she says something - one of them will be the right one!

That video clip was so cute and entertaining. Mr. B is adorable.

OMG, they are so cute! Miss M is like "I'm down as far as I can go!" Mr B, cute goes a long ways even if you're not as quick as Miss M. Good doggies!
Thanks for sharing this video with us -- it was a great to start my workday with a smile.

Oh I just love him! Mr B is sooo cute. And I love how Miss M is trying so hard to wait for him to get it right. He is just so sweet. Thanks for the smile and laugh Mr. B, if I ever come to Chicago I'll give ya a kiss and a treat if A lets me.

Oh. My. Goodness. That just made my Friday morning! I'm glad I chose to watch it in my car before heading inside the office so my coworkers didn't have to hear me laughing. The best part was when Mr. B tried to wave and down at the same time.

The comparison between Mr B and Miss M is so much like Barbie and Bender. Bender is a bit different to Mr B in that he gets a bit anxious and hyper when he can't figure out what he is meant to be doing, so I go very slowly with him. He does do quite a few tricks now though... he doesn't do 'paw' or 'wave' cos he has a thing about people touching his feet. He HATES it!

I don't care what is going on in that brain of Mr. B... I want to eat him up he is such a cutie!!!

Oh, poor Mr. B! Pip is not the brightest dog in the world either so he sympathizes!

Good job Mr. B! You may not be the brightest blub in the box but you are one of the CUTEST!! He has the sweetest face in the world. The look on Ms. M's face was priceless though as she did each treat the second she was asked and then wondered what the hold up was on the treat delivery!! Love these guys only wish I was close enough to tell them that in person.

This is a great video. I love me some Mr. B. How can you not? That sweet questioning look on his face is adorable.

That's just adorable. I love the way Miss M tries to squish herself into the floor while Mr B works it out. He's just so puzzled.

I almost spit coffee on my computer. My favorite part: "...reading things like books".

We have a very similar situation in our house with the smarty pants lady and the lovable, though maybe a bit less bright, cute boy.

Mr B's job is to simply sit there and be cute. That is worth plenty of cookies in my book! Too Cute!!

Awww, love the video!! Our girl is like Miss M, the boy DEFINITELY like Mr B! We just got the boy about a month ago, and its quite amusing when we say "paw" and the girl gives us one, the boy looks on. We say "paw" again, the girl gives us her other paw, the boy looks on. We say "paw" again, the girl gives us one, then the other, with an exasperated look on her face! I will say, its easier to teach when one dog already knows what they are doing!

In my next life want to be a pittie in city! What a wonderful time you have with these two. Love Mr. B's little legs.

This made me laugh out loud...I love that you treat for cuteness. :)

Sooo cute! Tell Mr. B that brains aren't everything! You and A are very lucky to have such wonderful babies!

This post made me laugh so hard! We have a smart-evil cat and a dumb-sweet cat dynamic in our house. Freddie means well, but he also does things like run into walls. Stella, on the other hand, is always creeping somewhere, plotting her next move (to get us to feed her more/to drink out of Zoe's water bowl). That video is just amazing.

Also, for the record, E can't quite be considered a simpleton with a Ph.D in neuroscience and all...:)

The look of innocent confusion on his sweet face is priceless! A perfect illustration of Mr B & Miss M's different charms!

This just made my Friday. Thank you. I'd also like to put in a request for more Mr. B videos. :)

That video just might be the most adorable thing I have ever seen! Not to mention that Mr. B. is just about the perfect man - handsome, sweet, and loyal. Sometimes intelligence is overrated. Good looks, loyalty, and a try-try-again attitude go a long way!

Soo awesome, haha Mr. B is so adorable, and I love how bug-eyed and intense Miss M is!

We've long since decided that there has to be the 'good dog' and the 'cute dog' - and while it is possible for a dog to be both, we reward for both being good and being cute - because otherwise Abby would be in serious trouble if we only rewarded good behavior (she's smart, but she definitely coasts on her looks)! Great video! And we agree with Sam and Pippen - just keep trying whatever you know until they give you a treat! ;-) And Mr. B IS cute - what more do you need? ;-D

Oh Mr. B, my poor kiddos STILL don't understand down but our foster got it in a week! They just frantically attempt to shake and stare at me like I'm a cruel maniac. Mr. B and Mr. M are the perfect pair, and combined they are definitely beauty and brains!

Bwahahaha! We have a Mr B who's a Boxer x who sounds alot like your Mr B,perhaps its down to the name.
Our poor B also lives with some super smart bitches. :)

OMD that has to be the cutest video I have seen in a long time!!!! Just tooo cute!!! I think Mr B does a great job. And honestly compared to one of the shelties I had he is totally a rocket scientist :) I finally was able to read your posts from the last 2 months and love reading them. Lots of good advice and love seeing your babies :) Hug them both!!!

hahahah that was such a cute video!
every time A said "down" Miss M kept going lower and into different variations of down while Mr B just was like "what does she want from me?!".
And I love the wave + down combo. heheheh
poor guy. At least he's cute! :)

I think this is my favorite post by far.

Poor Mr. B...he tries so hard, but he is so adorable when he finally gets it! I love his short little arms.

Ms. M is so quick and smart, and Mr. B has the good looks (I love those first pics of him!) - that's why they make they make a great team. :)

Miss M.'s face cracks me up

I think I laughed through that entire post! Mr B's little neurons were working over time- the human has food and it's saying something! Think! Think!! As Miss M it trying to predict the next trick in the sequence and solving world hunger.

Oh my, I love Mr. B!! He DOES try real hard! It reminds me of my cousin's dog who kindly refer to as the dumbest dog on the planet. He knows where the fridge is when he wants cold water (they live in Florida) - he'll stand by the fridge and cry, but other than that he knows nothing! When their poodle does tricks for a treat, he just sits and gets the treat because he can't do anything!

Anonymous said...

Love it.

pibble said...

Oh, but he is just so adorable. That would make him a fat dog in my book - tons of treats!

Lindsay said...

I love Mr. B even more after that video. You can sooooo see that willingness to please in his eyes!! Even if he does just have ONE wheel turning. ;-)

Stephani said...

Schultz knows sit and stay (if he is trying really really hard). Tess knows sit, down, roll over, shake, high five, spin around, dance, etc etc etc and when she is excited about anything she just does a run through of every trick she knows, over and over and over lol

I really love this blog. We have two pits, and our girl is quite a bit smarter as well. Mr. B reminds me so much of our boy, whom we occasionally call "Mr. Boo" - it's like destiny!

In any event, thanks so much for this blog! It gives me hope that someday we'll be in charge instead of the pits!

This post is so funny! I totally empathize with taking a year to teach down. A reliable down took us months, too! That video is TOO funny. He just starts dancing at one point: Wave - no? Okay, sit? Oh, wait, okay, I'll lie down. Oh you meant sit? Okay, I'm waving!

parlance said...

That is such a lovely video. Both dogs look so sweet. Thinking, thinking, thinking... How can I get that treat?

It's okay Mr. B. My Bella is a little slow too. You don't have to be like Ms. M. You're perfect just the way you are.

Mr. B is adorable... When Dutch gets confused he just lays down hoping that's the ultimate move we were looking for.

Love this. My son just tried to get Baxter to wave. He knows high five so it was not a difficult transition. Unfortunately LooLoo, our little terrier mix, was sitting too close and got bonked on the head by Baxter's waving paw. Thanks for sharing. Mr. B and Ms. M always make my day.
