Things to Do with Your Dog in the City: Holiday Traditions

With some time off over the holidays, we've started developing a couple of traditions with our little family (aka: the pooches). With everything closed on Christmas Eve, we thought this would be the perfect time to dress the pups in their best gear and head downtown for a family walk around the Loop.
Miss M thought this was the perfect occasion for her puffy hat, and her perfect 'Blue Steel' attracted many onlookers and paparazzi:
We walked by Chicago's Christkindlmarket which is normally so packed you can barely move. Being the holiday, it was fairly empty, but the pooches were able to meet a lot of people. Even better, a lot of the people we met were from out-of-town and they had never met pit bull-type dogs before. How flattering that our pups were their first!
We took the pups walking around The Loop checking out Daley Plaza, some of the theaters, and of course Miss M needed to get her photo taken in front of Garrett's Popcorn (yes! this popcorn really is that good!).
What types of holiday walks do other people take with their pups?

We take the pup to some sort of off leash park or trail on holiday mornings. It started as a way to make sure he'd be tired and (more likely to be) chilled out for family gatherings. As it turns out, going for a little hike is also a nice way to celebrate, so it's become a bit of a tradition.

This is so adorable! I just love Miss M's fuzzy white hat! Your dogs are such celebrities and I'm so proud of them for making such a good name for pit bull type dogs =)

We would instantly turn into paparazzi if we were there :)We do not really have family celebrations for the holidays so we usually load up & go to one of the local lakes for a big hike (weather permitting).

What a great tradition... really our only tradition started this year... a car ride and a walk and then donuts at the Donut Whole.

Okay those hats are just too much! No wonder they have so many groupies!

I can't get enough of those pooches in their fuzzy hats. Today I'm imagining the look on Miss M's face to be disapproval of all dogs who don't wear similar hats. :-)

We don't really have any hard and fast traditions yet, but will work on it.

That is an excellent idea! I should have bought Barbie into town during the Christmas/New Year period ;) I probably could have snuck her into the office hehe

Our city "lights up" the downtown area each year. We love taking the pooches down and enjoying the lights, especially after a nice snowfall! And it makes us feel all "Christmas-y."
