Pooches: Mysterious Dark Room

This is what it looks like when we go for our walk each morning:
And this is what it looks like when we go for our walk each night.
It's hard enough putting up with frigid Chicago winters, but I think it's the darkness that make them nearly unbearable. I always look forward to Winter Solstice knowing that today, the day after, it can only get better.
Though there are some positives to the darkness. For some reason, all the irresponsible dog owners we used to run into in the mornings are apparently not taking their dogs on walks anymore. So we have free reign of the dark neighborhood without the fear of running into off-leash dogs.
We have also been noticing some mysterious events in the dark rooms of our house:

Wow, Miss M looks pretty comfortable!!

I hate the darkness as well. It's dark when I go to work and dark when I come home. I feel like I never see the light of day!

You're so right to focus on the positive- it only gets brighter from here!

LOL. One of the things I love the most about the winter is the fact that all the people with the untrained dogs who are out in the summer, disappear when the weather gets cold. In the winter it's usually just Shiva and I, along with the other die-hards. All of which care for and control their animals. Even though I rarely stop to say hi, we always nod as we pass on opposite sides of the street. United in our dog walking solidarity. :-)

Great post!

I don't know if I'd want to go outside if I had a comfy spot like Miss M's, either!

I'm with you on the dark--no matter how much I try to enjoy the "spirit of the season," and drink extra helpings of hot chocolate, I always get a bit down this time of year.

But, oh my...your video is hilarious!!

There's nothing like seeing a pitty sleep in such a vulnerable position. To me this means they feel safe and I only wish this was the case for every single one of them.

Your video looked like a crime scene...it has all the makings of a scary movie. Dark room, lifeless body...haha!! (just add some scary music)

Tee Hee Miss M's sleep pose looks a lot like mine :) Darkness is spooky. At least there's been a full moon lately (that is if you don't have cloud cover). Mom's been lookin for some well made LED collars and leashes. Do y'all know where to get some?

Waggin at ya,
Roo

So true - the darkness makes the cold 10 times worse! I know what you mean about the irresponsible pet owners disappearing, and while that makes it nice for the rest of us, I feel sorry for all the poor dogs that are getting no exercise.

What a relaxed position. Hilarious! Even in Southern California the winters are tough because of the darkness. Now the worst is over. Soon there will be light.
