It wasn't until after a trip to Thailand that I realized the amazing power of straw beach mats. These mats can be purchased for mere dollars, they roll up for easy carrying, and they are semi waterproof. We have a couple that we take on impromptu picnics, but as I started noticing how pretty they were, I realized they might work even better as an outdoor dogproof rug.
We had a couple of smaller beachmat rugs layered in our outdoor space previously, but we just found this huge 6 x 9 rug at World Market. We liked having one cohesive rug, that also happens to match Mr. B's pillow (now overtaken by Miss M.)
We like that it makes our outdoor space even more like an extra room. They are waterproof and have held up for the summer. And they are super easy to clean, which is always a plus when having dogs. Plus, it gives Mr. B even more reason to hang out outdoors.

I love that idea! I've been trying to persuade my mom for ages to tone down on the thick oriental rugs, which are about the least dog friendly thing. Now I have something summer-fun to suggest as an alternative. Thanks!
I am still dreaming of getting an outdoor loungey sofa area like yours someday. I love the rug too though!
Looks like I'll be making a trip to World Market today - I love that rug!
So pretty, we wish our whole house could be dog-resistant..LOL!

Love World Market for rugs! You never know what you might find there...
Jumping out of Lurk mode to say I love your blog. I'm a dog person but live on the edge of a "not so nice" neighborhood in a small city, and have always been a bit edgy of bully breeds (and the young men who walk around with them on huge chains, un-neutered of course, or keep them chained to the porches of their house to lunge at us as we walk by). Your stories have really opened my eyes to what a sweet breed they can be in the right hands! God bless you for being such a good ambassador, and your two beautiful dogs!

P.S- Love the mat idea!!
I love the way you've turned your porch into an outdoor summer room! It seems great for dogs and persons alike. We have a back porch that we finally go some chairs for and now we can drink our coffee and Read while the dogs play in the yard but I'm thinking about adding a bench or rugs or pillows!
I've been planning on using indoor/outdoor rugs when we get more of our new flooring down. With dogs, it seems like they are so much more durable and easy to clean. World Market has a ton of great options - gotta love that store!
Once more just have to say, I love your patio setup!
I don't know why but that second picture of Ms. M with her chin positively POINTING at something off camera and Mr. B side-eyeing her is so funny! These two have the cutest personalities!
You guys find the coolest things!

Okay, my mom just got super duper excited about this. She's wanted an outdoor rug for awhile now but she couldn't find one she liked or that was big enough and didn't cost a kajillion green papers. She said she's going to World Market this weekend! (And that makes me happy cuz I'd much prefer to lay on a rug than on the hard patio.)

Oohhh I like that!
We usually end up lugging Darwin's bed (that she rarely uses) outside on the deck, but maybe a "rug" like that would be better!
Nice to see Ms M using the pillow instead of Mr B ;)

I got one of those several years ago, but at the end of the summer, it just crumbled into dust! I was so disappointed because I just loved it! I might have to look for another one, just to see if we'd have better luck.
Very nice!
Miss M. looks like she might need one or two more pillow to get really comfy.
I want to add some more cute touches like this to our patio, but it will just have to wait until next summer. Doing the grass and the veggie garden patio was enough for this year!
Great tip- I *love* that first photo!
We are all about the Outdoor Rugs!
