Chicago Korean Festival

After the dog walking club, we took the pooches to Chicago Korean Festival up on the northside of the city, near  Ms. M's old stomping grounds. We thought that it was important for the pooches to experience the other half of their heritage. Though the pooches probably never had Korean food until they stayed with my mom, I'm pretty sure that they are now 50% Korean with all the kalbi, pear apples, kampungi and other Korean food my relatives give them. My family and extended family have only had shih tzus, so bringing the two pups to meet everyone was a big deal, but everyone loved them. My 80 year old, 4'9" grandmother and big ole Ms. M quickly became good friends, sitting together on the sofa (which is not allowed at home), sharing pear apples (also not allowed at home), and watching Ms. M's favorite Korean dramas (we don't even have a TV).
So when we entered the festival, Ms. M thought that every older Korean lady was either my mom or my grandmother waiting to give her pear apples, just like how she thinks every Asian male in our neighborhood is me. Oftentimes she will turn around and watch an Asian or sometimes Latino male ride away on a bicycle, thinking it's me even though I'm holding her leash,
so she must have been really confused at the festival. The festival had all things Korean such as kalbi and kimchi, women playing the gayageum,  Pucca cell phone charms, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations and bboy battles.
Our pooches were like a tourist attraction, people were pointing, staring and talking about them in Korean, but luckily several people were curious enough to come up and talk to us and pet the pooches, so it was a good day for Ms. M and Mr. B and they even ate some kalbi (no bones) at the festival.

So fun! That's funny that Ms. M tries to go off with other people, she must be so confused when she sees you standing right behind her after seeing "you" walk away!

I think Miss M is book smart, but doesn't necessarily have a lot of book smarts if she's thinking every other Korean man is you! What a fun outing for the pooches and you!

Awesome. Way to expose some new folks to the wonders of your power duo. You've got to clue me in about how you're making those neat photo composites for your blog -- are you doing them by hand in photoshop, or do you have some kind of special program?

I love it! My brothers dog is bilingual (English and Spanish) but since I've had so many issues with my two training them in Spanish just hasn't been on my list of priorities. The do however has Argentina jerseys that were sent by my cousins during the world cup! Yay to multicultural pups!

Looks like you were the hit of the festival - and why wouldn't you be! What a super fun day and yummmy snacks!

Tell Mr. B and Ms. M that we are ready for their "frog pose" closeups! Oh, yeah, and tell all their Pittie furiends, too! www.pitbullfrogs.com in case you didn't get our email.

That's hilarious that Ms. M thinks every Asian guy is you. You guys inspired me to try taking Ginger to some festivals or the farmers market or something...get her some exposure!!

What a gorgeous day for such a fun festival. The food looks amazing! There is always something cool going on in Chicago, isn't there? For the longest time I have viewed New York as the American city to visit but your blog has changed my mind. Chicago is now much higher on my list! Especially when it comes to yummy food.

I love how you make the collages from your photos! Is that something that only works on Blogger? (I'm on WordPress.)

You are so lucky to have all those cool festivals. The food looks delicious. Mom took me to a festival and I got to eat part of her elephant ear, it was yummy. I can almost smell the yummy food in your wonderful pictures.

Very cool! We were stopped by a famous K-Pop star and his girlfriend on the Upper Westside of Manhattan and the girlfriend fell in love with Michael. I only listen to K-Pop casually so I had no idea why my friend Anna was standing there, mouth agape until they walked away.
