Pooches: Our Frontier House

Though I am not as active as A on the blog, I really enjoyed spending time away during our hiatus. We spend a lot of time trying to document every experience we have with our pooches, that sometimes it feels as if we are actually missing out on those experiences.
I believe this song lyric sums it up the best: "Didn't have a camera by my side this time hoping I would see the world with both my eyes."
I'm embarr....actually proud to say that the song lyrics are from John Mayer's song 3x5.
A likes to call me a 'bro' because I like John Mayer, and being worried about coming off as a 'bro' I spent quite some time searching online for another person that stated something similar that I could quote. I couldn't find anything.
Being attached to the Internet, we eventually get side-tracked and A ends up reading Reality Steve for The Bachelorette gossip, and I start looking up better IP cameras so we can remotely spy on the pooches (more on that on a later post).
So we spent the week trying to unplug, relax, and value the time we all spend together.
A always talks about one of her favorite shows, Frontier House from PBS, where families give up modern conveniences to live authentically as homesteaders. Doing this helps them realize how important family time is. We didn't dress in period clothes, build cabins or harvest crops, but I did paint our entire home and take care of our herb garden.
We imagined that we would sit around the house with the pooches, reading a books and avoiding media.
Though one Miss M just couldn't stay off of the computer.
It was nice to be completely away from the computer, camera, etc. and really spend time laying with the pooches out in the great outdoors of our porch.
A and I feel that life is too short with the pooches and we try to maximize our experiences by always doing something with them that we forget that it is just as important to do nothing and just live with them.
It was really quite relaxing to do nothing and hang out with my best friend and experience life together...while A and Miss M sat inside and watched The Bachelorette finale on the computer.

Also:
A always finds this video bizarrely funny when Miss M is listening to the radio.

Mr. B has never looked more peaceful. He should probably be allowed on all the furniture :)

I'm glad you enjoyed your hiatus (we did miss you though!)...we know exactly what you mean. I was never a photo-taker because of that same reason -- I always felt like I spent more time trying to get a picture than enjoying the view, event, etc. But I eventually started to feel like I didn't have any "documentation" of important events (college graduation?). That one thing I do love about the blog - that it forces me to remember to take pictures. And since most of my time is spent with the pooches, we take photos quite often, and it's a habit that is (hopefully) spreading when we're not with them.

Isn't it nice to just put the i-phone, camera and facebook away for a little while. When I get home I always try to do this because I feel like I'm always so connected to my phone.

Love the photo of Ms. M and the computer. Our Widget has taken to coming over and putting her head, her tennis ball, her stuffy, etc. on our computer if we've spent too much time focused on it - and not payed enough attention to her!

As a fellow camera-always-in-hand lady, I can relate to this. It sure is nice to set down the lens and 'focus' on the little things once in a while. I enjoyed reading this article very much. Thank you.

Unplugging can be extraordinary! I sat and watched Melvin sleep the other day and it felt glorious to just focus on him. Sweetest part of my week!

When my mom is home, I knock her kindle out of her hand so she pays more attention to me. Sometimes I will let her watch tv if Im really tired. But when she is home, all eyes and hands should be on me.

Baxter will shut the lap top with his paw when I am working so I will stop and pay attention to him. He has me well trained.

I think Miss M needs computer glasses, she is awfully close to the screen.

I LOVED "Frontier House". Watching it always makes me want to give up all technology (just rewatched it on a DIY, I think, a few months ago)...then I think, oh wait "I'm IT". Well, maybe I will try to give up my iphone and the laptop for the weekend and see how that turns out.

I think nothing is more relaxing and anxiety reducing that just snuggling with my dog and doing nothing else. Pure peace! Mr. B looks angelic in that last pic. :)

I've never heard the song before but that's an awesome lyric. I've felt the same way sometimes!

And, it's nice to take a break every now and then to just sit back and enjoy life with the pups, we try to do the same thing every now and then, we call them doggie vacation days

Getting offline is important - and not documenting everything on a camera is just as important. Are you getting more feedback since your hiatus? Sounds like you used it purposefully and in a relaxing manner.

Sometimes, unplugging is something that just has to be done so we can keep our balance. It sounds like you and the pooches really benefited from your time together!

I hear you! It's wonderful to unplug for a while and just enjoy the dogs, the boyfriend, hikes, family, life without documenting all of it.

Reality Steve and the Bachelorette are a guilty pleasure! I don't indulge often, but when I do I feel it is time well spent :)

We have always wanted to have an unplugged weekend. I even heard our human say we may have an unplugged vacation. I'd bet a bowl of kibble they could never be unplugged the entire vacation ;)

Such a great post! Being unplugged is so awesome. I love that my TV is rarely on over the weekend and that I get time to enjoy my pets. It sounds like you and A and the pups enjoyed some wonderful quality time together!
