Some dogs don't listen enough. But, with Miss M., she listens too much. She seems to have an over-attention problem.
I initially thought it was charming. She literally caught my eye at the adoption event and I thought I had found the perfect dog for me. Little did I realize, I couldn't relax in my own home anymore. There was always someone watching and listening.
She even does this to other people when we go for walks. In our old neighborhood, people found her quite menacing. They would cross the street because they thought she wanted to eat them.
On the other hand, it is this over-attention that has made her
so trainable. I wouldn't say she's especially smart, but because she pays such close attention she has actually learned human language. She knows the difference between "go to daycare" (running and jumping around) and "go take a bath" (backing up and leaving the room). She knows certain friends names, and responds to an array of commands. So even though she looks like a cartoon, she keeps the scary people on the streets away from us, and can keep us entertained as a circus dog

I'm always amazed at how much dogs understand. I'd rather have an extra good listener than a dog who ignores me!

Thats exactly why I have a lab who will listen to my since my goofy bloodhound makes me think he is deaf sometimes!! I would love to have Miss M hanging on my every word!

Miss M is so cute! I agree with Two Crazy Coaches and Hound Girl that I'd love to have a dog really listening to me since mine is so stubborn she hears only what she wants to hear :) The words "out" and "treat" are a few that she actually responds to!

Awwww...you have your very own little stalker! I likes to stare at people on our walkies, too. I'm thinking, "Pet me, pet me, pet me." But it's surprising how few times that ever works.

Aw, I love it! Sock does the creepy staring thing, too. I finally just had to accept that he was going to freak people out occasionally. I love her sweet face. :)

About the insurance... Im pretty sure they cover emergency vet visits... I think the only thing they dont cover is the exam fees. But the xrays, sedation, prescriptions and such I think they will cover. I'll let you know for sure when we hear from them!

Perhaps she has a future with the FBI! She definitely has an intense gaze, but I think it's very cute!
Well done, Miss M! The eyes say it all - she seems to be taking it all in.
We've often commented that our dogs are always listening, even when they appear to be sleeping. If they hear a phrase in our conversation that they recognize, they're at attention till we acknowledge them.
I don't know how they could find her scary - she is so cute!

There is a difference between paying attention and a blank stare. Momma says when I get the blank stare that I AM a scary doggie because I go deaf. But paying attention to the humans is important because they have so many different signals.
