We've had a lot going on lately and we haven't had as much time to get online and keep up with our posts; this is one of our favorites from long ago you may have missed:
Miss M. just loves sleeping with pillows. And despite all the different pillows and beds we buy her, they just aren't good enough. Being a bully, she is always trying to get more. And this more includes something off limits: the sofa.
Since we lived in our old place, Miss M. always wanted to sleep on the sofa. She would never do it while I was home, but when I was gone she would sneak onto the sofa, and somehow make it back to her bed by the time I was actually in the door. The following is a reenactment of what I think happened.
She would sleep on the couch, but always with one eye open in case I came home:
She would hear my footsteps on the stairs:
Decide on her "usual plan":
Gracefully leap of the couch like a gazelle:
And pretend she had been sleeping in her bed the whole time:
She did leave behind telltale brindle hair, paw indentations, and mussed pillows, so I always knew she was on the couch.
Much like the roadrunner and coyote, I went to great lengths to try tricking her. I left a blanket on the sofa and slept underneath planning to jump up and scare her. She never came. I later found out while I spent the night on the sofa trying to trick her, Miss M. was cozily sleeping in my bed.
Since we've lived here Miss M. has been abiding by the rules...until recently. Miss M. is always in our room in the morning when we wake up, but we started finding the telltale brindle hair on the sofa. Somehow she was sneaking away in the middle of the night, sleeping on the couch, and returning before we woke up.
She likes using the sofa pillows as head pillows, so we even made a special trip to Ikea to get her some pillows. That worked for awhile, but within weeks the brindle hair was back on the sofa.
I read somewhere that if you want to keep cats off your sofa, you could put pieces of tin foil on the cushions. We decided to try it for Miss M. The first night we had the tin foil, I actually heard her leaving the room, her nails slowly clicking down the hall, then silence. A couple of minutes later I heard her clipping back to our bedroom; she had been foiled. The foil has been working for the last several weeks, but you never know what Miss M. is going to do next. She might just learn to use her claw for a hook and move the foil herself

SHe sure is a sneaky girl! Hopefully the foil continues to work for you!
What a Funny Post. Miss M is a very smart puppy dog! The tin foil is a great idea, I am suprised that she wouldn't sleep on top of it, my gang wouldn't care.
Have A great Weekend.
OMD that is so cute and funny! Miss M is a real sneak! Please keep us updated as to her couch adventures! When I was a kid we had a mutt (part cocker, park who knows!) who wasn't allowed on the furniture. She knew it and was good about it. We left the house one Sunday, probably to go to my grandmother's house but came back in just a minute as my mother had forgotten something. My mom came into the house, up the four stairs to the kitchen and thought she saw the dog jumping off from the padded bench by our kitchen table. When she felt it, sure enough, it was warm. Apparently she was a sneak in training -- jumping up on the furniture when we weren't home but jumping down when she heard someone come in.
That's hilarious! Luv the foil trick :)
Winkin at Miss M. Clever gal,
Roo
rules?
The only rule is that the sofa belongs to the pit bull.
;-)

Oh, I love this! The photos completely killed me, too! I guess enjoying forbidden fruit is just too much to resist!
Ummm, the sofa IS ours - and the bed and the chair, plus our own beds! We sometimes let Mom and Dad use them :) And, Miss M, don't let the foil fool you! Just lick it real good to make sure there are no food particles!
The Road Dogs
Miss M you are too cute! I'll help woo find a way to remove that pesky FOIL so that you can rest your beawooootiful head on the pillows!!!
Missed ya tons!
Wags and woofs,
Mack and Mia
haha! miss m and asa must be bosom buddies. the couch is off limits at our house, too, but asa loves getting up there when we are at work. our solution was to put asa's bed on top of the ottoman so she can still be on the couch without actually touching the couch. lol. i'm going to have to try the foil, though, partly because i know how amusing asa's reaction would be. ;)
Wilbur would just chew the foil to pieces. We had to be very careful on the boat to make sure no empty beer cans were within his line of sight after we found him using them as chew toys.
Oh Miss M! ehehehe. Darwin LOVES sleeping on the couch too! We now have a sheet over the couch and pillows she can drool on (good pillows on the side for company use only!). When we really dont want her on, we have to block it by putting her toy box on it or our laptops.
Foil- great tip! I didn't know about that one :)
I dunno. I thinks brindle furs look WAY better on couches than foil.

PeeS. That re-enactment was SO exciting!
oh miss m you clever girl--i know you will figure out that tin foil someday~! ;)
my big sis coco is the SAME way. she LOVES the sofa eventhough she KNOWS its a NO NO ZONE. haha--cute~!!!
xo,
luna
Both mine would just remove the foil! It's kind of cute that she didn't!
Hee hee! If I were a betting dog, I'd bet on her to solve that foil problem before too long.
wags, Lola
Stupid PeeWee used to do the same thing. He would never let momma see him on the couch but she feel that it was warm from his labrabutt. She just gave up and let him have the couch, but no other furniture. Makes the little guy happy and keeps him out of my way at night.
Slobbers,
Mango
Mesa is a huge pillow dog. To the point she steals entire sofa cushions...

Josie, Izzy and Anakin Man
Why is it that they're always just a scooch smarter than we are!
I love the sofa too! I just hope mom never tries that shiny silver stuff!
Fantastic! My girls are pretty much allowed everywhere, so this particular battle doesn't rage on in our home. Others yes, but not this one. Good luck with Ms Smarty Pants!
Dang those brindle hairs! They always give us away. The tin foil would totally keep me off of the sofa, but Coco would eat it. We all pile on the couch together, and they even upgraded to a King bed just for us! Miss M you are one smart girl, and the Ikea pillows are super cute.
