Pooches: Camping with the Pooches

Our camping trip earlier this week required a little more preparation, because of the pooches. Here are some of the things we brought that made the trip a little more enjoyable for the pooches:
This tent was very easy to set up, though it required two people. It was pretty roomy with enough room to hold another person or two more pooches.
The vestibule came in handy because the pooches had a place to hang out in the evening or at night
that was similar to their crates and it provided shade during the day.
Pet Herbal Armor Natural Insect Repellent:
Since DEET is toxic to dogs, we chose to use a DEET-Free insect repellent that was safe for animals.
Picnic blankets and mats:
We brought mats that we use on the porch, so the pooches had places to lay by the campsite that they were used to.
Bowls and collapsable bowls:
Though we used their bowls, we also brought the collapsable bowl which takes up a lot less space when traveling.

Thanks for the awesome tips. We (sadly) haven't been camping since we got Roxie - too lazy to sort out the logistics, I guess.

One thing I was wondering - Roxie sleeps in her kennel here at home. I suspect that she wouldn't do too well sleeping in close quarters with us - when we lay on the living room floor she gets excited and constantly walks over us, throws herself down next to us, etc. That's all in good fun at home on a Saturday afternoon, but what about at night, in a tent? Methinks it would be much less charming.

She's also an anxiety chewer, so who knows *what* she might destroy if left to her own devices! (even if we were sleeping just 3 feet away)

So I guess we'd have to transport her kennel, too? Not a big deal, I guess, but it definitely wouldn't fit in our tent. Hmm...

(I'm thinking that a short, one-night "test drive" camping trip is in order before we attempt a longer journey!)

I'm interested in that insect repellent. It would be good for when we go to northern Wisconsin. Thanks!

We could have used that insect repellant on our trip this summer! We did bring Wilbur's crate with us and luckily it fit on top of the guest bunk otherwise we never would have been able to go ashore without him.

Thanks for telling us about the Big Agnes tent. We've been looking for a car camping tent. We just have a small backpacking tent and with 2 people and 2 dogs, it gets a little "cozy."

Also thanks for the tip on the insect repellent. Like I said, Mayzie got eaten up the last time we went camping but I wasn't sure how to keep those little critters away from her.

Looks like they both had no problem adjusting to camping Life. That was great that you were able to find Deet Free Bug spray for them. I tried one the last time we went camping, but it didn't work. The Black Flies Drove Geisha Crazy. Love the Pictures.

Mosquito repellent is very important. In AK nothing was strong enough :(
