There is such a huge personality difference between Ms. M and Mr. B and this is very apparent when we try to take a pictures of them. Ms. M will willingly look at the camera and even seems like she is posing for the camera.
This is indicative of her personality. She will freely approach new people, wiggling like she did in the Halloween parade, and making other humans feel like they are the most important people in the world.
When people have their hands out, she will run up to kiss their hands and even their face, if it's low enough.
On the other hand, there is Mr. B who is a bit more reserved. We cannot get him to look straight into the camera. We think that he is either afraid of the camera or just a shy little dog. A tries everything to coax him into staring at the camera, but it barely works. Sometimes we are lucky to catch that random shot of him looking right into the camera.
His reserved nature is apparent when we take him on walks. He will walk right past a stranger that wants to pet him. Though he will let random people pet him, pull on his ears and tail, he will not show the same affection back. However, if he has warmed up to you, he will follow you everywhere and go crazy when you come over. Our walls are scratched up, because when he sees our dog walker coming up the walk, he will jump on the door and wall, getting ready to greet her. Sometimes we wish he was a bit more like Ms. M when meeting new people, but it's probably a good thing he isn't going crazy meeting a stranger.

Both of mine go crazy for strangers, friends, anyone! It's slightly embarassing!
Petey and Jordie get excited meeting new people - jumping and lots of butt wiggling and angling to be petted. Roxy, on the other hand, is a bit more reserved as a diva should be. No sucking up to humans for her, unless there's food in the offing.
I am like Ms M. I got cracker for everybody!! But I don't like the camera much like Mr. B. Mom gots sneaky tricks to get me to look.
Bender is like Miss M... please please talk to me!
Barbie is weird cos she acts all interested in people but when they come to pat her she just looks around in a disinterested fashion and eventually just goes to wander off!
My Ben is the exact same as Mr. B. If he is sitting in front of you, he won't look you in the face - same with the camera - I've taken hundreds of shots of him close up and maybe 5 turn out well because he just won't look at the camera. He is a very stoic, but sensitive dog, unless he gets excited and then he can't sit still and smiles with all his teeth! Shy is the same way - maybe its a pit thing?
Pauley does great with the camera & poses any way we want him to. Middy Sue almost has a fear of the camera & will only look at it if she is very sleepy. Surprisingly, Middy Sue is the most outgoing of the two & can't wait to give kisses to everyone.
Oh those faces!! I just want to kiss them:)
Leroy is a lot like Ms M..a social butterfly, but Sherman is more subdued.
Great work capturing the smiles and frowns in equal measure! Such cuties...but don't worry Mr. B, not everyone has to love the camera! Just as long as you love your people things will be alright! I have trouble getting Cassie to sit still long enough to take photos...photoshoots take double long at our house!
By the way, what camera are you using...it always seems to capture their eyes so well, without glaring??
awww! love the pictures!
Zeus is anti camera- I have taken a TON of photos of him and he'll look at me then at the last second he'll shift his eyes away - so annoying!
he's funny about walks and meeting people/dogs. If it's just a person walking by he could not care lesss. But if someone's walking a dog, then he HAS to greet the dog (he cries if we don't say Hi) but as soon as he smells the other dog he's lost interest and then he only wnats to meet the human. He doesn't jump or do tricks or anything- he just wnats to sniff and then move on. It's actually kind of annoying because we'll meet other dogs, then I'll talk to their owner- in the meantime Zeus is standing next to me compeltely aloof, no longer interested in the dog or the person.
I'm curious - how do you guys 'divide' the chores for the pooches? does one wind up doing more/less? I'm always wondering how other couples do it all.
Not every doggie is meant to be a media hound like Miss M and Me!! My sister Stanzie is camera shy too. She is a little reserved with new people too.

I'm a mix of Miss M and Mr B... I enjoy the camera, but I'm not so excited about meeting new people. Mom always says I'm more interested in the "big picture" than to pay specific attention to one person. It often puts people off and makes them think I'm not a friendly dog - which is so far from the truth... but, no offense to the person petting me, but there might be something better going on somewhere else!

Me and Brudder Ranger are EXACTLY like that! Brudder Ranger HATES the camera and he's kinda "meh" abouts meeting new people. But me...well...I think you prolly know that I think making new furends is one of the best things in the whole world.
Has Miss M ever thought abouts becoming a therapy dog? I bet she'd be SO good at it!
Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie
Hello there guys! Nice to meet you. I saw your blog featured in Corbin's blog so I thought why not drop by your blog & check you guys out. This is a nice blog. For me, I'm not the type who really likes going up to random strangers & greeting them. However if it's someone I have met before even if I have only met h/her ONE time before, I get really excited seeing h/her again!
i hate to go off topic here, but don't think i didn't notice these available light, short DoF photos from your new camera! they look great!
let's talk processing sometime soon!
I see you are working with your new camera- looking good! :)
I too am intrigued with your camera. What do you use? You get these great airy, light indoor shots, with no "demonic dog eye" glare.
Love love love those first two pics, showing their eyes. Ms. M's eyes have always caught my attention - they are so huge and round and expressive. I wish I could meet her. Is she more dominant, and Mr. B less so? My theory about camera shyness is that the dogs with more submissive personalities tend to view it as a threat. Like a big eye staring at them. A submissive dog won't look another dog in the eye. As the photographer for the local rescue group, I see this a lot, where it appears the dog I'm photographing feels socially obliged to look away from my camera, or just glance sideways at it. Needless to say, this makes the photography more challenging! :)
Such great photos!
Darwin's like Mr. B. She LOVES seeing people she knows and could care less about people she doesn't know.
IT IS GREAT THAT THEY ARE NICE DOGS, EVEN IF MR B IS MORE REFIND.
JOHN LOVES TO SEE ALL OF THE BACK ENDS WAGING IT SHOWS HAPPY DOGS.
PIP PINCHES ALL TOYS ONE DAY HE WILL TAKE ONE AND ALL HELL WILL START.
Boss sounds so much like Mr. B! I kind of like it because I feel that he is so loyal to us and us only :) but I am glad that as soon as he warms up to someone he would be quick to crawl into their lap! It also makes it easier to take him to the off leash dog park because he is much more interested in us and his ball then other people or their dogs.
Big Carl is our anti social dog on walks, but that is very typical for a chihuahua

We love people! But sometime ignore them while on walks since pee-mail is important too!
Dozer is just like Mr. B. In our house he is beyond friendly and affectionate, but in new environments or in the car all he wants to do is examine his surroundings. He wants nothing to do with new human contact. Whereas Gidget will lick anyone, anywhere.
Awww... I love hearing about all the different personalities. Most of you know about Nyxie, but Arwen is pretty reserved until she realizes you might offer her some belly rubs. Then she's putty!
For the camera question---most of the pictures from the other posts are using a Cannon G10 with the flash turned off. In this post we made the debut of our new DSLR; we're using the Nikon D7000.
opposites attract, right? miss m and mr. b are a great pair. :)
asa is like mr. b and is more reserved. booker, however, goes cracker dog crazy to meet new people or dogs.
the booker man and asa's mama
our hounds are the same way. my oldest, pocket, is way more reserved like mr b until she gets to know you and especially if you have a dog she loves to play with. then your party person supreme. jimmy legs on the other hand is an outgoing little social party. he tries ever so hard to engage every single stranger on our walks. and when they dont say hello to him he gets a little frustrated and lets out a little sigh/grunt. its interesting how they can be so different and i love it!
