How to Be a Tourist with Your Dog Series: Seattle, Washington

We're always aware of limitations of having our big dogs, so we were extra excited to get this post from
 Darwin and her family. As an extra large dog, we're inspired how Darwin seamlessly navigates the city, accompanying her family around town and on endless hiking trips on the weekends. Plus, they live in beautiful Seattle, which given all their descriptions, we are completely convinced we want to visit. Here is Darwin and her family's description of what to do with dogs in Seattle.
If you've never been to Seattle before it's a great place to visit, especially with your furry friend! While we do have a reputation of being a grey rainy city (and it can be in the winter), we do have some of the most beautiful days in the spring and especially summer time.There are the usual tourist spots to visit like the Space Needle, Pikes Place Market and the waterfront.

And there are a fair number of dog friendly eateries, from restaurants that allow dogs on their decks (the Pink Door) to bars that actually allow dogs inside (Norm's, Jabu's, Beveridge Place Pub)!

Seattle also has some great parks to take your dog to both off leash and non off leash. Marymoor Park (off leash), Westcrest (off leash with trails outside the off leash area), and Discovery Park (not off leash) are some of Darwin's favorites.

If you have a car, there are a ton of day (or overnight) trips you can take. In the spring we take our tulips and brewery day trip, in the summer and fall we do camping trips, and in between we go for hikes, some of which are just 30 minutes from Seattle.

Just recently we went on a weekend trip up to Orcas Island (an hour and a half drive north to Anancortes and a one hour ferry ride). We'll have a post up about it soon, but in just a few hours ride from busy downtown Seattle you can get away and totally slow down and enjoy island time.

And hung out with chickens, horses and llamas.
