While we were away in Tulum, Mexico, we kept missing our beloved pooches. Last year, we were lucky, because during our stay a dog pseudo-adopted us and we became his companion during our vacation. However, this year, we weren't adopted by any dog, but we got to see an assortment of animals and hang out with a few. This dog, we named The Bear, was probably my favorite pooch on the beach. He smiled all the time and he just walked up and down the beach. He really wasn't that personable, but it wasn't hard to get a picture of him because he walks really slow. One day as we were going back to our room, we were greeted by this iguana hanging out on the porch of our building.Unlike The Bear, this pooch really loved hanging out with us.She even climbed onto A's chaise lounge chair to be closer to her. Most of the dogs we would see were exhausted from the heat. This one was laying out on the stoop of a restaurant in the town of Tulum.
These two were passed out at a restaurant, Posada Margarita, right off the beach
At Xi-Cho, they even had Mr. B's favorite companion, a cat.

ah beach dogs. part of me envies their lives (well the good parts of their lives) :)
'Bear' has to be a Chow and I can't imagine how hot that poor dog must be, no wonder he walks slowly! Hans had a Chow years ago and he loved sleeping in the snow.
And what a lucky cat, just look at the size of that litter box!
I noticed some collars there, but were post of the dogs you saw strays?
It seems like some of the dogs are "claimed" by people that live in the area, but this time we actually saw a lot of people who brought their dogs on vacation with them and were having a great time. We were trying to figure out how to get the pooches all the way from Chicago to Tulum...
Ohhhh, we're exhausted all the time the last few days. The heat in our neck of the woods' been unbearable!
What great pictures of the beach and it's poochies!
Great pictures. I like the bear!
traveling without your pet is tough! I got a ton of pictures of dogs and cats in Cambodia to make up for my lack of Darwin pictures!
How fun that you gots to hang out with those cute doggies! I bet Miss M and Mr. B would have the bestest time going on vacation with you. Maybe you could drive cuz it's prolly only about 30 minutes from Chicago to Mexico, right?

Wow, you guys made a lot of new friends on your trip! I love the little guy who climbed on to A's chair. What a sweetie!
What great new friends!
I amazes me how the homeless/street dog population has grown in Cozumel..I hope these guys had homes.
did any of the dogs like to go in the ocean to swim? i'd think if it got that hot, it would feel good to get wet!

Looks like you had a lot of fun on your vacation. Thanks for posting lots of photos and explaining it. I always feel sad for the beach dogs and kitties. The iguanas get really big in Mexico. When I was there we saw a huge orange one. He must have been at least 4-5 feet with tail. Much Love, Woof..Josie and Blues
aww poor babies
tired from all the heat
good thing its near the water and they can drink some when they need to
pibble sugars and wee wags

I love the paw prints in the sand. It's always so nice to meet dogs when you are away from your own fur babies!
That is awesome. I just got back from Texas and the worst part was being away from my kids. I was OK without Joey for the most part as he can talk on the phone but I missed my babies terribly!
