And this was way before Nala.
We too were perplexed how a doglover, who volunteered with so many adoptable dogs each week, could still be single. Until she met Nala.
We were very excited to have her share her story of knowing when you met your "One":
It was a typcial volunteer evening working with out dogs in the Bully Buddy Program (I am proud to say ACS now has all Bully breeds on the general adoption floor). I had worked with a couple high-energy pitties and I was ready to go home. I decided I should take one more dog out, just for a quick 15 minute play session as I was too mentally exhuasted to do anything else. I picked the newest member of the program, as she had spent her first month in the shelter in ISO for kennel cough I figured she’d probably love to stretch her legs out. Plus I thought her name, Nala, was cute.
Enter Nala:
While she was a bit of a pain in her kennel, she was easy to harness up and I
took her down to the basement where I could hook her up on a long lead. She was
super excited to play and was bouncing around. “What a playful pup” I thought
to myself. Since I was tired I sat on the floor and offered her a Nylabone. She
accepted the offer and plopped herself right on my lap for an intense chewing
session (why do pitties love to chew while ON us? Next to us will never be close
enough.) I looked down at her chewing in complete bliss and said out loud “oh
my god, you are MY dog!!!”
It’s hard to
say what exactly it was about Nala that made me choose her. I guess one could
say it was her perfect mix of playfulness, friendliness, and mellowness--she is
knocked out on the couch as I write this-- and maybe, just maybe, I found the
mathimatically perfect dog for me. But when she hopped into my friend’s Mazda
and stuck her little nose out the window soaking up the Chicago summer air I
had another idea – that maybe, just maybe, she choose me.

Perfect Valentine's day love story!
Awwww...I LUVS this story. They're just PAWFECT for each other! And I think you all know that I picked my mom. And after some training, she's turned out to be the pawfect human for me, too!
Happy Valentine's Day!

So sweet. We spent a few minutes with each of 3 puppies at the shelter, mutually decided that Gambit was the one, and hoped for the best. He was interested and attentive but still seemed independent - traits that would challenge us at first but still love those things about him!
One of our fosters chose my dad and it was quite clear. She instantly bonded with him and promptly respected him more than anyone else. We just had to convince my mom to allow another dog in her life, and when Dad came back for Nellie, she always had to be beside him, cuddling with him, etc.
That has got to be one of the best "The One" stories yet!
What a sweet story.
Yep yep, Vinnie chose me! He was in the shelter for six long months, wearing me down slowly on each of our 3-mile runs together...when I found myself stressing each time a potential adopter came around that wasn't an absolute "perfect" fit, I realized it was time to bring him home :)
What a sweet story!
I love this story! I truly believe that your dog picks you... if it wasn't true, I wouldn't have brought Turkey home from the shelter! :)

Aw... this is such a sweet story!
I met Boomer as a pup on a farm in Oklahoma and when he melted into my arms I knew he was mine.
And, I met Dottie as a tiny little puppy at the humane society. I knew she was mine when she curled up by me on the floor.
You just know.
My partner and I had looked at 5 pups at CACC, when the volunteer recommended one last girl, a 4.5 month old boxer-pit mix. When we got to her cage she was just waking up from a nap. She slowly stretched, and sauntered over to me. She gently licked each of my fingers that were saying hi against the metal bars. Then she walked over to inspect my partner.
We took her out in a run and both fell in love. Neither of us were planning on getting such a young puppy, but she was the one.
We've had her for almost 2 months now and feel like we couldn't possibly love her more.
This is adorable! I love Nala! :)
