Pooches: Daily Walk in 10 Pictures 07.07.10

Now that Wilma is part of the crew, we all have to go on the walks together. Before, A would walk the pooches in the morning and I would walk the pooches in the afternoon, but each walk with Wilma is now a training walk. We have forgotten how hard we worked with Ms. M and Mr. B to have them walk nicely with us. Though Wilma walks really well on leash, we are working with her to walk on the left and to stop pulling. In addition, we are training her to sit at curbs before she crosses the street. In the back is the Country Western Clothes store where Mr. B gets all of his Pride Parade attire.
We love how there are so many different sights and sounds in our city for the pooches to admire. Mr. B is cheesing it up for the camera in front of one of his favorite pizza places. He loves to urinate on the red, pink, yellow and orange walls, it makes the colors pop.
Mr. B searched far and wide and finally found the source of the popping noise during the 4th of July.
Pooches posing in front of one of our many alleys, where Mr. B's best friends, the rats, hang out.Just like Mr. B, one of Wilma's favorite things is to roll around in the grass.
Another one of Mr. B's favorite urination spots. He loves to add his tag to the graffiti.
Even though we were only a couple blocks from home, the pooches needed a little break from the incredible heat.
I guess Wilma needs to build up her stamina to hang out with the big pooches. A two year old has nothing on Ms. M.

Wilma is very lucky to Mr B and Ms M as mentors for good doggie behavior.

That last picture! Hilarious!

We're in that same phase that you're in, remembering how hard it is to teach a new dog to walk with manners! Whew! It's a whole new rodeo! I feel for you!

That last pic is priceless!

And, just an fyi, not a criticism...since we live in FL where it's also HOT. Just a head's up that the pavement/cement can get very hot and when the pooches have to sit at crosswalks, they may be getting a little uncomfortable on their hiney's.

I once saw a man and his boxer and the boxer kept squirming and liftig his hind end and the man kept demanding that he sit/stay.

Thanks for the info heartsong. In this heat we've been working to go really early/late in the day, go on shorter walks, and have plenty of water afterwards. When we saw Miss M squirming around on one of the streets we remembered about the hot pavement and we've been working to walk on the shady side, or wait in the grass. This is a good reminder that those of us with shoes typically forget.

I love seeing a bunch of pups all happily hanging out together. I'm so glad we have more than one dog so they can "pack" together! Wilma is lucky- I love that name too :)

Thanks for making it over to Shauna Stewart's R.O.A.R Squad (www.fidoandwino.com) to see our coonhound! So glad you recognized us even though we were not on our turf! What a great thing Shauna is doing to support shelter dogs all over the U.S. and Canada!
How funny that your pups like add color and "pop" to the streets with their "spray guns"! So sweet that you added Wilma to your pack! Looks like a real sweetheart!

OMG! I am so far behind and just read that you are fostering Wilma! I didn't think your blog could get any cuter!!! She's so tiny and adorable. I'm sure Mr. B and Ms. M love having a new friend to show off their good manners to. Just don't let Ms. M get Wilma hooked on the sauce-the last thing she needs is a boozy partner in crime.

I am interested in reading how you handle three dogs in condo life. It was a struggle for me with two when we did our rent-a-pet. Then again, your dogs are probably better behaved than Levi.

One of the questions I have is whether you are crate training her and how you are doing that with an adult dog. One of my other fears with a new dog in a condo is barking and irritating my neighbors.

Congrats on the temporary addition and I bow down to you for fostering!

Does Mr. B really like the rats? I avoid those night creatures at all costs!

Mary--We were really lucky to have found a compatible foster. The group we're working with is associated with our Doggy Daycare, so they knew Miss M & Mr. B's habits, and our pooches actually had met Wilma through daycare. She is really laid back--Miss M is more wild than her--so even though we only live in a condo, nobody is running wild through the place. We do have an extra crate and while she'll go in the crate, she does have some crate anxiety when we leave. We're working on it, and we'll probably write about it in a later post. The biggest difference is that now E and I have to go for all of our walks together since I'm not able to handle the 3 dogs.

Wilma is lucky to have two such good coaches for good manners in the city. She will catch on in no time.
