Pooches: On Confessions of a "Super" Food-Motivated Dog

Miss M uses hypnotism to awaken us for Breakfast.
While we always love "talking dog", the one conversation we can never participate in is what to do with a picky eater. As people share stories of how they can't get their pup to eat and how they scorn treats, we always shrink to the side listening to things we never thought possible.
Because our pups aren't just food-motivated...they are "super" food-motivated.
Where food controls everything they think and do.
The pups haunt us as we attempt to eat a Rainbow Cone.
Like the fact the pups can never sleep in.
Since they know breakfast is served in the morning, they spend all night anticipating the moment when they will arise and food will be placed in front of them.
At 5:00. Or at least that's what they think. Because every morning begins with that 'subtle' hum. Which like an alarm clock grows in volume and frequency. Except this is one that you can't turn off. Unless it is given food.
After breakfast, the pups will be satisfied for a whole 3 hours. Until they begin following us around the house giving us not so subtle hints:
Or just ravenously staring at our own food with Crazy-Eyes.
Until we finally can't stand be stalked any longer and we feed them dinner. Which really does give a new meaning to Early-Bird dinner. Yes, our dogs eat dinner at 11:00am.
Then the fact our pups have developed super-sonic hearing where any morsel dropped on the ground will alert them from a deep sleep:
And any time we attempt to enjoy a meal we know the table-gremlins will be watching from below.
Anyone else have "super" food-motivated pups?

Also:
At least food-motivation does help us with this.
And our free-cleaning help.

OMG! This is SO my boys. Especially my big boy. He will stand next to you while you are eating, and stare at you, and drool on your leg! It's funny and annoying all at the same time!

Me, Edward, is just like you guys. I live for food. Now Lily is very picky and finicky. My food is gone in 0.2 seconds. I watch Lily eat for another 14 minutes. Nutty

Yes absolutely. And Rosa has clear preferences for people food. When she hears me chopping veggies, she comes FLYING into the kitchen. She'll leave me alone if I'm eating something with, say, mushrooms, but she's extra beggy when I'm eating pasta with cherry tomatoes (because they're her fave).

Yes! Henry is also a table gremlin....but it's so charming and cute! He's also a world-class beggar. He sits so close to you, puts his heavy head in your lap, and looks up at you with the most precious puppy eyes. Sometimes, when he's really sleepy, but still wants to beg, he patiently sits in front of you and his eyes start slooooowly closing. It's hilarious.

Yes! My dog Meghan is just like commenter Emily's dog. She hears me chopping and she comes running. Somehow she always knows when I'm chopping carrots too. They're her favorites!

I have food motivated dogs but not dinner-at-11am food motivated. So then do they not eat anything else for the rest of the day?

HA! Kaya & Norman are the opposite. I never feed them at regular times so they don't anticipate meals. Kaya is always over the moon to eat though, but Norman has to be called repeatedly to get off the couch to eat:)

Haha they are labs! Both of mine are very food motivated. Sophie will not sleep past 7am, she must be fed or heads will roll! They get two meals a day and I'm sure those are the favorite parts of the day. Swy can be a little too food motivated that he can't focus on training when food is in the picture. Makes classes a little frustrating!

Yes. One of mine demands breakfast at 4 a.m. I'm exhausted.

Adorable! Otto's favorite times of day are dinner time and bed time. He has kibble available all day, but he really looks forward to his home-cooked evening meal. At bedtime, he waits in the hallway until we escort him into the bedroom to tuck him in under the covers. Spoiled much?
